Business laptops: what we actually buy

We buy a lot of laptops, and the question we get asked most is which brand. The more useful answer is that we run two, deliberately, and the reason has less to do with the machines than with what happens when a supply chain stops behaving.

Lenovo ThinkPads: the fleet that survives

Across years of fleet procurement, ThinkPads have had the lowest drama per device of anything we ship: keyboards people like, batteries that last the lease, and warranty service that actually works here.

Nothing is perfect. Model-line churn makes like-for-like replacement a moving target, and the consumer-adjacent lines do not deserve the badge. Stay in the T and X series.

Verdict: our default business laptop. Boring, durable, right.

HP EliteBooks and the second-source rule

HP's EliteBooks are the other name on the standard: solid builds, sane docking, dependable supply when the other queue runs long.

Supply is the quiet reason this matters. When one vendor's lead times blow out, and anyone who was buying fleets in the mid-2020s remembers exactly what that felt like, the second source keeps onboarding on schedule.

Verdict: a first-class fleet machine, and insurance against somebody else's supply chain.

Why two vendors rather than the cheapest one

A single-vendor fleet is cheaper on the quote and more expensive in the year. The failure mode is not quality, it is availability: a new starter with no laptop costs more in a week than the per-device saving does in three years, and the finance conversation about it always happens after the fact.

Running a standard on two vendors also keeps the imaging, docking and warranty processes honest, because nothing in the build can quietly depend on one manufacturer's quirk. It is the same reasoning we apply to anything else that would otherwise become a single point of failure.

What we would tell you

Pick a standard and hold it. The specific badge matters far less than refusing to buy whatever is on special that month, because a fleet of one-off models is what turns device management into archaeology. Stay in the business lines, keep a second source approved before you need it, and plan replacement on a lifecycle rather than on failure.

properly?

A 90-minute discovery & security session. We'll tell you what fits your environment, and what doesn't.

And relax

Getting started is the easy part.

Onboarding without drama

We do the switch: your current provider, the migration, the handover, all of it. Most teams barely notice the cutover happened.

Everything looked after

On the right plan, compliance, reporting and budgets are handled inside the partnership. You run the business; we run the IT underneath it.

Your QBR writes itself

Quarterly business reviews are generated automatically from your live environment: spend, posture, recommendations and roadmap, ready for the board, reviewed with your account manager.

The honest bit: the full looked-after experience comes with the right plan. We charge fairly for what we take on, and when costs step up it's because you are taking on more, always moving in the right direction.
